Fine Staircase in Georgian Manor House
Fine Staircase in Georgian Manor House
It was a pleasure to offer advice on repairs at The Grange, Leeds. This former country house is a grade II* listed building. It was built in 1752, by James Paine, for Walter Wade. With significant alterations carried out c1834 and c1858 for Sir John and William Beckett.
This ashlar gritstone and blue slate roofed building is a 3 storeyed, with 3 x 5 bays, over a basement, with a lower 2-bay range to the left. Inside the heavier, high relief plasterwork, reflecting an earlier style, appears to date to the mid-19th century. The centre of the building contains a grand staircase lit by a lantern, also finely plastered
