The iron rich limestone and aggregates of south east Sicily. Colouring the stone, lime mortars and lime renders with a warm patina. In England similar iron rich limestones can be found in the Cotswolds and similar sands include Guiting Stone aggregate.
The warmth of the sun catches on this balcony at Nicolaci Palace, begun in 1773 by aristocratic Giacomo Nicolaci. The figures are carved out of Noto fine grained limestone and the balconies carry wrought iron goose breast railings
