Toft Gate Lime Kiln in Nidderdale
Toft Gate Lime Kiln 1860. A Continuous Burn, Dual Feed, Vertical Lime Kiln in Nidderdale. Part of Yorkshire’s rich Industrial Heritage. Womersley’s still buys limestone from the adjacent Hanson Coldstones Quarry.
The kiln has a series of fire boxes lower down the kiln through which coal was feed and the local limestone was lowered into the top. A long flue took the gases from the burning process to a chimney over 50 metres away.
