Traditional Orthodox Painting
In my pursuit to understand the vernacular architecture and art of The Orthodox Church in Northern Ethiopia I met Mahïrw Wu Lalama, today. His artistic team comprises of a family descended form artists who have learned and developed the Gondarian style of church painting. These paintings are onto cotton canvas, which is then glued onto clay plastered walls, with a paste formed from previously heated up flour and water.
