Understanding Marple Lime Kilns

I was a delight to be asked by the Fiona, Pam and Rachael for my advice on running workshops to help interpret how Marple Lime Kilns where used and how this could feed in to the associated archaeological digs and the conservation of Mellor Mill. When Samuel Oldknow built Mellor Mill in 1790-92, it was the world’s largest spinning mill. Initially powered by a huge 6.7m diameter waterwheel, by 1804, 550 people worked here, mostly women and children.
