New training course dates in December for those who wish to learn how to use lime for repointing, building and plastering
M. Womersleys provides more in-depth training courses in the use of lime for building, pointing and plastering. Providing bespoke training to those who attend our courses to ensure that when they leave, they have the necessary understanding and basic skills to allow them to undertake or manage work on their historic buildings or their clients'.
Our building and repointing with lime course equips you with the skills to choose the correct lime mortar, whether it be hot lime, hydraulic, or fat lime-bound pointing and building mixes. The day includes a comprehensive theory session delivered in an easy-to-understand way, plus practical work mixing hot, fat lime, and hydraulic mortars and using them for building and pointing on both brick and stone. You will learn how to protect lime pointing, finish it using different techniques, and select the right lime mortar and sands for the work you have to do.
We cover the use of pozolanas and different aggregate admixtures, as well as selecting and grading sands for mortars used in everything from fine ashlar work to random rubble walling, and everything in between.
These are full-day courses, and lunch is included, along with the opportunity to work on a 17th-century historic house on the outskirts of Halifax in West Yorkshire. Depending on the weather, we will work inside or outside.
